A Fungus Among Us!

There is a pervasive sickness in this country, a sickness that is fed by envy, jealousy, fear, hate, unabashed aspirations, and political corruption. The basis of this sickness has been present since biblical times but has been developed, sharpened, and improved in the 20th century and modified and disturbingly molded into an art form by disgusting and despicable people in the 21st century.

I speak of the continuing assaults on people's character by those who wish to destroy an opponent in any legal and occasionally illegal way possible. I say “legal” because I feel many of these attempts fall just short if not under the category of defamation of character in the legal sense.

Character assassination is a political tool used most effectively when the user has no possible record to stand behind and therefore his supporters dig up dirt, often from the depths of decades gone by. Even if there is minimal or even no dirt to spread around, innuendoes, fabrications of facts, and outright lying to get an upper hand is considered appropriate and part of the game so much so that America seems to be immune to it
.
Americans should be just so fed up with this spreading fungus and turn the tables on those who offer it as “fair game.” Americans should actually punish those who persist in continually using this form of politics to acquire a position of respect. How in the world can anyone respect any candidate who allows his supporters to attack individuals on issues that do not even affect their ability to govern, allegations from anonymous people, baseless statements, outright fraudulent acts linked fourth hand to an individual, and suggestions of immorality without any accurate proof. Often, the issues brought up are superficial and benign only to be embellished into mean and vile prevarications. These are the nauseating weapons of unsavory persons.

It is only when an individual becomes a strong candidate for a certain position that this disease rears its ugly and deceitful head. A weaker opponent, having less support and inferior ideas, is not considered to be one so targeted as the one whose intelligence and ideas are considered superior.

America deserves the most experienced, knowledgeable, strong, and capable leaders possible, not weak, apologetic, indecisive, purely political animals whose handlers can only run a wretched campaign of vitriol, lies, and personal defamation planned to subliminally destroy another candidate.

I, for one, believe this sickness can only be eliminated by a vaccine of all Americans understanding the true character and the putrid decomposition and contamination of the mud thrower's soul.
